Maks, for his part, happened to document events first-hand when he was in the country on work-related duties. Naturally, the invasion threw a spanner in the works as he was not able to get out initially.

While he did manage to make it out alive and return back to the United States to his family, the star decided to return to Poland in order to aid Ukrainian refugees. And yet, it was clear that the events impacted the whole family.

In an interview, Val said: “My brother was in Kyiv when the invasion started, and we were all really nervous, obviously. He was petrified, we talked about it, and he was grateful to get out.”

Despite Maks making it out alive, the harsh reality is that many others have not been able to do so. And this was something that Val wanted to highlight. People are having to make the difficult decision of whether or not they want to join the military or risk fleeing the country knowing that they could get killed.

Either way, it is a tough choice with no clear right or wrong answer. Val added: “There are a lot of our friends and family and peers that are in Ukraine right now that are, like I said, in bomb shelters.

“You don’t understand what that is, that means you don’t have a home, and you hide in a shelter with nothing there.” The response on social media was mixed. A certain subset of people felt that Val or his brother could have stayed and joined the military in order to defend the country.

Meanwhile, others understood that it was a very difficult decision irrespective of what people decided to do. One person wrote: “Why didn’t he stay and fight? There are women who stayed to fight.”

Hopefully, this conflict ends sooner rather than later. After all, the last thing that people need to see is more innocent lives being lost. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
