Whoopi Goldberg has apologised in the aftermath of criticism she received for her comments about the Holocaust.
Whoopi Goldberg Apologises For Her Comments On The Holocaust-‘I Regret My Comments’
The comments were made on ‘The View’ the talk show that she has now become synonymous with.
And during the course of the discussion, Whoopi sought to distinguish between race as being a driving factor for Adolf Hitler’s motivation for the Holocaust from that of general evil conduct.
And by dismissing race as being an issue with a focus on evil, Whoopi’s comments were deemed to be inflammatory. In a statement at the time, she remarked: “If you’re going to do this, then let’s be truthful about it.
“Because the Holocaust isn’t about race. No, it’s not about race. But it’s not about race. It’s not. It’s about man’s inhumanity to other man.”
And after those comments were deemed to be downplaying playing the Holocaust, Whoopi felt that she had no choice but to clarify her position on the matter.
And given that we live in a cancel culture where a career could be destroyed at any moment, it was probably wise that Whoopi came out to address everything.
In a statement in response, she said: “I regret my comments, as I said, and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people as they know and y’all know because I’ve always done that.”
And yet, this has not been enough to stop the backlash that the talk show host has been receiving. As of now, she has reportedly been suspended from the show for around 2 weeks.
Although it is not clear whether she will be allowed to return, the very fact of the matter is that a certain subset of people feel that this punishment was not enough. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
A certain group questioned why she had not been fired. One person wrote: “If Whoopi Goldberg was any other race, she’d be fired from her job for her comments.”
While another stated: “Sharon Osbourne was fired for much less- saying Piers Morgan had a right to state his opinion about Harry and Megan.”
