Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is honoring 13 people who were killed defending a small island after reportedly telling the Russian ship to “Go f–k yourself” after being ordered to surrender. In unverified audio clips, the guards defending the island in the Black Sea were told to “lay down your weapons or be bombed,” according to translations.
However, the 13 people responded with, “Russian warship, go f–k yourself.” Ukraine says they were then killed by air and sea strikes. Of course, Russia denies the account, claiming they all surrendered. Now, Zelenskyy has awarded each of the guards the posthumous title of ‘Hero of Ukraine’. President Zelensky said,
“On our Zmiinyi Island, defending it to the last, all the border guards died heroically.”Â
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy Honors 13 Soldiers Who Died Defending Snake Island After Telling A Russian Ship To “Go F–k Yourself”
According to Ukrainian officials, those were the last words heard from the island before Russia began striking and Kyiv lost contact with the island. The official Russian story tells it a bit differently. Moscow said that 82 Ukrainian soldiers on the island surrendered to them voluntarily.
Snake Island is roughly 40-acres of rocky island owned by Ukraine that is about 186 miles west of Crimea.
Ukraine says 137 of its civilians and military personnel were killed during Russia’s invasion on Thursday. We continue to pull for the Ukrainian people and hope they can defend their country against the Russian invasion. Bless those 13 people who laid down their lives defending their home country and what a hell of a way to go out. Nothing but respect for the “Heroes of Ukraine.”
