The NFL has denied claims that they disapproved of Eminem’s decision to take the knee during his performance at the Super Bowl.
The NFL Denies Claims That They Did Not Want Eminem To Take The Knee During His Super Bowl Performance
The rapper made a powerful statement by showing solidarity with those who have been suffering at the hands of police brutality and racism across the globe.
And given that he took the knee during the performance of one of his most iconic tracks ‘Loose Yourself,’ it was understandable that this raised many talking points, with some suggestions that the NFL had reportedly not wanted Eminem to do it.Â
One report at the time, said the following: “Eminem wanted to take a knee during halftime today. The NFL said no way.
“The backstage clash reveals a larger truth about how the league uses legal threats as image management.”
Given that this is such a sensitive and divisive issue, the NFL wanted to set the record straight. And they let everyone know in no uncertain terms that these claims were utterly false.Â
In fact, their comments suggested that they were totally fine with it, given it was not a shock. Brian McCarthy, who happens to be a spokesperson for the NFL, had this to say: “That report was erroneous.
“We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week and were aware that Eminem was going to do that.”
In reality, if the authorities had prevented Eminem from doing this, it could have created a whole controversy that they would rather do without. And so it showed, as the response on social media was very positive for the rapper.
A large proportion of people welcomed Eminem’s decision to do this, as it showed there was an attempt to improve race relations within the United States.
One person wrote: “Eminem gets a pass! He is on stage with legends and pioneers, he is paying tribute to a culture that made him.
“I am giving him a pass – Eminem you are a warrior and I’ll always support your spirit.” Eminem certainly took some courage to do what he did, and by the looks of it, the decision did pay off.
