Or rather, they have some beef with him, so he says. Now, if this had not been talked about on The Big Podcast with Shaq himself, one could almost say that this was some harmful propaganda being perpetuated by someone who didn’t like Shaq, but Shaq himself is the one who said this, and we at DSD are just quoting the big guy himself.
He said that whenever he goes to the zoo and goes to the gorilla exhibit, the males will try and make themselves as big as possible and do all kinds of threat displays. “Hey man, where your fur at?” he was quoted as saying on his podcast.
Shaquille O’ Neal Has Some Beef With Gorillas When Going To The Zoo
On this particular episode, he put in a call to the Zoo Miami’s Ron Magill, who agreed, that the male gorillas do indeed have a beef with Shaq. Shaq is over 7 feet tall and 325 pounds, and whenever he enters the exhibit they seem to think that he’s going to ‘take their girls away’… not kidding, that’s what was actually said on the podcast.
Granted, they’re gorillas, they don’t know any better, but still! Ron Magill is a ‘zookeeper to the stars’ and knows what he’s talking about, so we’ll give him some credit here.
But Shaq said that it wasn’t just Miami gorillas that had a problem with him, it’s at every zoo in the world, if he walks into the primate exhibit and there are male gorillas around, they will automatically be making threat displays and acting like they want to fight him.
Poor Shaq, all he wants to do is watch the gorillas in peace! But it seems that the gorillas have all sat down and had a long talk about this and Shaq is not to be allowed in any of the exhibits without them telling him just who the girls belong to first.
Ron Magill said that eventually, all the males stand down because they realize ‘whose boss’ (AKA: Shaq), but still! It’s hard out here for a former NBA star who just wants to go to the zoo! Poor guy! Stay tuned!!!
