    Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would have to pay a significant amount of money if they wanted their own security outside of the Royal family in the UK.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Own Security In The UK Could Cost ‘£100,000 A Year’

That is according to Royal expert Richard Aitch. It is no secret that Harry has had security issues of late ever since reports emerged that he would not be allowed to fund his own if he visited the UK.

This led to suggestions by his representatives that he might not return to the UK on the basis that it was unsafe. So much so that Harry has engaged in a judicial review with the Home Office to overturn this decision.

Given that Harry and Meghan are not entitled to financial help from the Royal family since their exit in 2020, it is not going to be cheap to find all of this. In an interview with Us Weekly, Richard said: “It’s very difficult to put a figure exactly on it.

“The cost for a personal protection officer from the [Metropolitan Police] has been estimated to be around £100,000 a year.” These comments are not a surprise when we look into exactly what would be covered.

The couple’s children would also have to be included in any security arrangement, coupled with the fact that they would have to arrange accommodation as it is not feasible for them to stay with the Royal family especially in light of the poor relations.

With so many things to contend with, it is not surprising to hear that the figure would be high. He added: “What may appear as a wish on paper is far more in reality, and the costs can certainly be quite huge.”

And yet, the cost is not something that should influence Harry and Meghan’s decision. After all, they are still very high profile people that could become targeted.

We only have to look at what happened to Queen Elizabeth II when an armed intruder was arrested with a crossbow at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day last year.

Richard continued: “The fact he no longer receives police protection [means] his risk to threats have certainly spiked.”
