Nick Cannon has admitted that he has regrets over not spending more time with his late son, Zen.
Nick Cannon Has A ‘Backpack Full Of Guilt’ Over Not Spending More Time With His Late Son Zen
The talk show host’s son passed away at the back end of last year following a brain tumour. And given that it had happened so quickly, Nick did not have enough time to process everything in the aftermath.
After all, the news was such a shock that he had publicly broken down on his talk show. Now that he has managed to reflect on a few things, he wished he could have done things differently.
In an interview, he said: “One thing that keeps me up at night, there’s this heavy, heavy guilt with the fact that I didn’t get to spend time — like I really wanted to — with Zen.
“I walk around with a backpack full of guilt. But at least I know that the harder that I work then it makes the guilt easier to deal with.”
In Nick’s defense, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, he admitted that during the latter stages of Zen’s life, he made a conscious effort to spend more time with him.
Although that could have been expected, it is still safe to say that it is very difficult to see someone going through a lot of pain and having to stand by at the mercy of doctors.
Secondly, Nick has had the self awareness to recognise that this is something he has done with his other children and hopefully he can take steps to overcome that.
He added: “[I feel] guilty for not being there every day [with my other kids].” His feelings are hardly a surprise, given that Nick is reportedly set to welcome his 8th child with none other than Bre Tiesi.
And if this experience has taught him anything, it is that he needs to divide his time better in order to ensure that all these kids are able to see their father.
And hopefully, this is something that he can implement in his life going forward for the benefit of everyone involved. So there you have it.
