Kanye West says that his 8-year-old daughter North West is on TikTok against his will. And according to some fans, he’s got a point. Kanye was crowdsourcing advice last week as to how to get his daughter off the social media platform. Here’s what you need to know.
shared a screenshot to Instagram Friday of the 8-year-old from one of her videos, which are posted with his estranged wife Kim Kardashian’s approval, and wrote, “SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST DIVORCE I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT MY DAUGHTER BEING PUT ON TIK TOK AGAINST MY WILL ?”

This comes after even Kourtney Kardashian’s son Mason Disick expressed his concern about seeing his cousin North do a TikTok live several months ago. “Hi I don’t wanna disrespect North but I don’t think she should do the lives unless someone is with her because people are always screen recording and she might tell information that isn’t correct and stuff like that, that she will regret,” Mason, 12, wrote to his Aunt Kiki in text messages she shared via Instagram Stories.
Of course, many critics have taken to their social media accounts to weigh in on the matter. Many have posted comments such as, “I never wanted to agree with anything Kanye said or thought, but here I am. I don’t think kids that young need to be on social media. I think that even Facebook’s 13 and over policy is too lenient and that no one should be on social media until their late teens. Even then, they should be discouraged from it,” along with, “I can’t stand Kanye West, but he’s got a point about an 8-year-old being on TikTok. As a parent myself, there’s no way I would allow my kid to be on any kind of social media at that age, other than maybe a Happy Birthday post.”
Another fan wrote, “Have to be team Kanye on this one, but what did he expect when he married a Kardashian? Kim’s response was obviously written by her legal and/or PR team. Of course, somehow this gets spun in a way that is not in the best interest of their daughter. Getting the daughter on the product selling Payroll is obviously their family biz. It’s a shame these people have no integrity, even when it comes to their kids.”
