Netflix’s docuseries, Inventing Anna seems to be all people are talking about when it comes to the next series you simply must binge. This has also led to a new fascination in the real-life people behind the sensationalized retelling at the hands of Shonda Rhimes.
If you’ve been living under a rock, you may not know the story of Anna Delvey, the German heiress who inserted herself into high society with New York’s elite. Anna lived a truly lavish lifestyle, staying at the poshest of hotels, taking private jets, trips on yachts, vacations to exotic destinations and receiving loans from banks…all without paying a cent.
That’s because Anna was a Russian pauper, with zero inheritance, zero status and zero money. Not even her last name was real and eventually Anna Sorokin found herself living at a new address- Rikers Correctional Center.
‘Inventing Anna’ Real Life Neff Davis Dishes About Her Relationship With Anna Sorokin
Recently, Neffatari Davis, best known as Neff the concierge who was about the only friend to continually stand by Anna, opened up about the status of her relationship with the ‘SoHo Scammer’ today.
“We speak as much as we can, which is like once a month right now,” Neff told Vulture. “I spoke to her yesterday, actually. It’s like, if I’m bored, I’ll pick up.”
Neff admits she is one of a very few people Anna can lean on in the US with her family so far away in Europe and “confused about her fame.” However, she needed to draw a line in the sand and give Anna boundaries.
“Sometimes I won’t answer the phone because I had to let her know I have my freedom. I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m not going to be able to answer every single phone call from jail. But if you need some panties or some coconut milk for Thanksgiving, I’ll send it.”
Neff explained she’d been forced to set such boundaries with Anna during her trial when Anna “started losing her mind a little bit when it came to being famous in jail and by herself.”
As seen in the drama, while Anna was imprisoned in upstate New York, Neff moved out to the West Coast. In fact, the last time she saw her friend in person was just before the notorious Morocco trip.
Neff, who had been the one to book the luxurious digs for the vacationers, didn’t have a clue things were going so wrong during the trip. “From Instagram, it looked like they had an amazing time. I didn’t know until Jessica contacted me how bad it went.”
Jessica is Jessica Pressler, whose name was changed to Vivian Kent for the limited series. Neff divulged that she actually speaks with Jessica more than Anna.
“We’ve kept in contact once a week for three years. It’s like having a mom in New York.”
Anna, too, is still in New York and even though she was released from jail in February 2021 after serving about three-and-a-half years in prison, she is not a free woman. Only six weeks after her release Anna was taken into ICE custody due to immigration issues.
Anna has not watched the Netflix show.
“It doesn’t look like I’ll be watching Inventing Anna anytime soon,” she wrote in an essay for Insider. “Even if I were to pull some strings and make it happen, nothing about seeing a fictionalized version of myself in this criminal-insane-asylum setting sounds appealing to me.”
