‘Days of our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers find that Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) has finally been found after being kidnapped by Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) many months ago…well…sort of.
As Kayla Brady-Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve “Patch” Johnson (Stephen Nicols) happened upon the long-missing Sarah on Kristen’s Captive Island, they figured they could team up with Kayla’s co-worker from the hospital and make a run…err… swim for it. That is until they realized Sarah wasn’t exactly feeling herself.
Thanks to some powerful hallucinogens (and heavy reading), Sarah believes she is the long-dead Renée DuMonde (Philece Sampler). Before Patch could tell his wife, “You’re going to have to fill me in on this one”, we decided to take a deep dive into the archives and refresh ourselves on the lives and times (and tragic death) of Ms. DuMonde.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Renée DuMonde – Who Do You Think You Are?
Don’t feel bad if you don’t remember Renée. She was only part of the soap for three years, between 1981 and 1984 but boy oh boy, she sure managed to pack in huge amounts of drama during those years.
Renée first rocked up in Salem after her gold digger sister, Lee had a stroke. Lee survived her health emergency, but it wasn’t long before Renée has embroiled in a dangerous situation herself. The Salem Strangler, who’d already killed two women attempted to kill Renée also, but wily Renée got away.
After surviving the near-fatal assault, Renée was invited to stay at the DiMera mansion for security reasons. It wasn’t long before she fell for the debonair Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) however, almost as quickly, the wheels fell off in the relationship.
Renée’s sister, Lee was very against the romance and soon Renée discovered why. It turns out Lee wasn’t her sister, but her biological mother…and Renée’s father was Tony’s father- Stefano DiMera!
Oh brother…literally.
Down a fiancé (but up a brother…shudder), Renée’s mother, Lee soon also up and disappeared, leaving Renee alone. It was later revealed by writers that this wasn’t a planned storyline. In real life, Lee’s portrayer, Brenda Benet had tragically taken her own life.
Tony moved on with (current, 2022 wife) Anna Brady (now DiMera, Leann Hunley) and Renée moved on with Julie Williams’ (Susan Seaforth Hayes) son, David Banning (Gregg Marx), yet a hidden truth about Tony’s paternity was soon divulged.
Tony’s mother, Daphne DiMera (Madlyn Rhue) revealed Tony’s father is NOT Stefano DiMera but rather her lover Enrico, the DiMera family gardener! Though Tony and Renée stayed with their respective new spouses even after it was proven they did not share any blood relatives, their attraction couldn’t be denied.
Eventually, after Renée purposely miscarried David’s baby, the couple broke up and Renée set her sights back on Tony…who was about to father a child with Anna.
As mentioned by Saranée in recent, 2022 episodes, Renée drilled a hole in the boat Anna and Tony were sailing on. Though they both survived when the boat sank, Anna and Tony’s unborn baby did not.
Renée and Anna have had some amazing cat-fights over Tony throughout the years they were on-screen together, but the piece de resistance of daytime television came when Renée discovered the second will of the recently (kind of but not really) deceased Stefano.
Stefano’s second will left his riches to his daughter, making Renée the richest woman in Salem. With this, and other delicious secrets ready to be spilled, Renée invited the rest of the ‘town peasants’ to a lavish party at the DiMera mansion.
First, she publicly announced a quicky marriage to her new husband, future arsonist- Alex Marshall (Quinn Redeke) followed by major gloating about her new windfall. She finished off the trifecta of shocking secrets by dumping her shiny new husband as she had discovered that Alex knew Renée was about to inherit all things DiMera and only married her for the money.
This was then followed by Renée going off at every single attendee about each individual slight they’d done or said against her, sparing only Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) who’d always shown Renée kindness.
Renée reserved most of her wrath for Anna before declaring her eternal love for Tony and running upstairs in tears.
It was true daytime poetry.
Instead of consoling Anna, Tony went to Renée and they reconnected in that very special way. He then went to fetch some champagne to celebrate but before he could pop back into bed and pop the cork, Renée was found stabbed to death.
After the way Renée had treated everyone in Salem, there was a laundry list of suspects. Months of whodunnit suspicions later, it was revealed the killer was Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), Tony’s evil twin brother- aka, the “Salem Slasher”, not to be confused with the Salem Strangler (Jake Kostichek- Jack Coleman ) or The Salem Stalker (Dr. Marlena Evans) or The Riverfront Knifer (Harper Devereaux- Joseph Campanella) or the Neck Tie Killer (Ben Weston- Robert Scott Wilson)
Why are there still only four people in the Salem PD??? Get the FBI into that town ASAP!
As for Saranée, it will be interesting to see how long it takes for Sarah to snap out of it. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, portrayer Linsey mentioned being a part of a love triangle now she has returned to the show. While we all automatically presumed it would be between Sarah, Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) and Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien), maybe that was all a mislead and we’ll see Crazy Anna turn even more batty as pretty young Saranée inserts herself into her marriage!
We hope you enjoyed your trip down memory lane! Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC.
