With the resignation of CNN’s Jeff Zucker for not divulging his consensual relationship with Allison Gollust, media critics have started calling for Brian Stelter’s firing.
According to reports, Stetler’s being called out by insiders for wasting no time in criticizing other networks like FOX but that he didn’t report on Zucker and Gollust’s “open secret” relationship.
Dailymail.co.uk shared some quotes, including was saying: “Brian Stelter should be calling his agent to start looking for another job. He’s been Jeff Zucker’s water boy for years and no one believes he didn’t know about all of this.”
“He’s been sitting on his moral high horse doing Jeff’s bidding and ripping Fox and every other media outlet that Jeff tells him to while his ratings crash and burn. Where was he on the biggest story at his own network after chastising everyone else?”
The Domino Effect
The open secret was reportedly obvious as Zucker and Gollust’s relationship has lasted for twenty years with Zucker reportedly having a hand in bringing her from NBC to CNN, according to one of the sources for Dailymail.
It was so obvious a problem reportedly developed and Warner Media separated them last year according to another source cited in the Dailymail article.
Critics Call For CNN To Fire Brian Stelter
Stetler recently talked about a domino effect since Chris Cuomo’s firing and how he wants to burn CNN to the ground, meaning there’s a good chance Stelter might be feeling the heat.
More than a domino effect, this feels like we’re seeing more of the iceberg CNN has been trying to avoid as Stelter could be fighting for his job, depending on what higher management decides to do.
CNN needs to turn things around as for the last year, CNN has quickly declined as their ratings have all but bottomed out and they’re losing their audience in droves.
CNN reportedly hasn’t seen much if any rating improvement since 2013 when Zucker took over, so it definitely falls on his shoulders and those he put in positions to relay the news.
While Stetler’s firing may remove another member of Zucker’s alleged cadre, it’s hard to tell if it’ll stop there or if there are more moves to come after this.
CNN looks more like a house of cards every day, and it’s going to be a challenge for them to right the ship however they do it.
Does Stetler deserve to be fired for not reporting on the relations? If so, shouldn’t everyone else that kept quiet have similar concerns, or should it end without any more firings or resignations? What will CNN do going forward?
