Singer Adele has been slammed over the comments that she had made while receiving the first gender-neutral music award for the best artist at the 2022 Brits awards.

This was a historic moment, especially since this category had been introduced to replace the former categories of best male and female artists.
Although that was seen as a move in order to increase inclusivity, it seems that Adele’s comments were not exactly in line with that feeling.
During the course of her acceptance speech, Adele was alleged to have said the following comments: “I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman and being a female artist.
“I do! I’m really proud of us, I really, really am.” The last thing that Adele expected was for her comments to receive a significant amount of backlash, particularly since she has been praised in the past for being such an iconic figure that has been instrumental in encouraging female empowerment.
And yet, that is precisely what happened when a certain subset of people claimed that she was being anti trans. Meanwhile, others defended the artist by stating that she had no malice with her comments.
One person wrote: “Please, no, ADELE can’t be a TERF [trans-exclusionary radical feminist],” while another person stated: “Using this to be transphobic and saying s–t like ‘i stand with adele.
“She stands with trans rights and if you don’t then you don’t really stand with adele. gtfo.” Adele has yet to respond to these accusations, which is understandable as she will want to avoid generating any additional negative media scrutiny.
In response, she simply thanks her fans for supporting her throughout her career. In an official statement, she remarked: “Thank you @BRITs, thank you Sally and Tom for being so accommodating.
“Thank you to everyone who was there in the crowd, you were so loud and loving! Congratulations.” It will be fascinating to see whether there will be any further ramifications for Adele.
