Sia Furler, dite Sia, Admits She Considered Suicide
The musician is one of the biggest stars in the world, but with that, there is a lot of pressure that you have to deal with.
And so it showed in response to the criticism she received after Sia decided to cast Maddie Ziegler to play an autistic teenager that could not speak in her directorial debut for the film ‘Music.’Â
In response, Sia received a huge amount of backlash from a certain subset of disability activists. This was on the grounds that Maddie was not an autistic actress and therefore it was viewed as being discriminatory against such people.
Although Sia denied doing anything of the sort, and tried to justify it on the fact that she did try to get such an actress but it simply did not work, people refused to accept her defence.
In an interview with the ‘New York Times’, Sia said: “I was suicidal and relapsed and went to rehab.” Things did not get any easier in that regard. The film had actually done very well with the critics, as she was nominated for 2 Golden Globe awards.
Despite the success that was coming her way, Sia still struggled to deal with the pressure. In response, she decided to delete her Twitter account so that she could recollect her thoughts and focus on herself.
But before she did that, Sia had to credit Maddie for saving her life. Sia stated: “[Maddie] saved [me.” However, through it all, she has managed to come out the other side.
She admitted that she had begun to prioritise her health to ensure that she does not end up in a similar position again. In this way, she has put a clear action plan in place and began to see the benefits of this already.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “[I] work on relaxing, and my PTSD and my sobriety and my health.” Hopefully, Sia can overcome her demons.
And the fans will be there to support her every step of the way to make sure that she is fine. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
