She’s putting her mental health and her priorities over everything and everyone else. And that’s the way it should be, right? Bella Hadid recently explained why she quit drinking and that was because she simply couldn’t “control” herself anymore. Here’s what she has to say.
In an interview with InStyle Magazine, the 25-year-old model said that she knew she had to stop and take a step back once things were getting out of control for her. She said, “I have done my fair share of drinking. I loved alcohol and it got to the point where even I started to, you know, cancel nights out that I felt like I wouldn’t be able to control myself.”

Bella also admitted that it became “a lot harder to pick up the glass” after a doctor showed her scans revealing the effects alcohol has on the brain. This has prompted her to stay sober for as long as she can.
“I don’t feel the need [to drink anymore] because I know how it will affect me at 3 in the morning when I wake up with horrible anxiety thinking about that one thing I said five years ago when I graduated high school,” Hadid admitted.
“There’s just this never-ending effect of, essentially, you know, pain and stress over those few drinks that didn’t really do much, you know?”
Back in November, Bella made it no secret that her mental health was also suffering. She felt compelled to open up about her struggles on her Instagram account.
“It made me feel a little less alone and that’s why I’d like to post this,” Hadid wrote, alongside a series of photos of herself crying. “This is pretty much my everyday, every night for a few years now. Social media is not real. For anyone struggling, please remember that. Sometimes all you’ve gotta hear is that you’re not alone. So from me to you, you’re not alone. I love you, I see you, and I hear you.”
“Self help and mental illness/chemical imbalance is not linear and it is almost like a flowing rollercoaster of obstacles… it has its ups and downs, and side to sides,” Hadid continued. “But I want you to know, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and the rollercoaster always comes to a complete stop at some point. (There is always room for it to start up again, but for me it’s always been nice to know that even if it’s a few days, weeks, or months, it does get better, to some extent, even for a moment.)”
