Republican Kevin McCarthy has been slammed on the grounds of his hypocritical views in light of Martin Luther King day.

Republican Kevin McCarthy Blasted For His Comments On MLK Day-‘You’re A Fake, Sick Man’

Martin Luther King’s emphasis on equality was something that garnered millions of people around the world to get behind his cause.

While he was an instrumental part in the Civil Rights Movement, the very fact of the matter is that politicians are often accused of getting on the bandwagon when there is an increasing popularity around something.

And so it showed here, as Kevin did not hold back on expressing his apparent admiration for Martin Luther King on his social media.

In a statement at the time to his followers on Twitter, he said: “From the halls of Ebenezer Baptist Church to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, #MLK spent his life spreading what he called “the gospel of freedom.”

“He never gave up and never preached hate. His words and example inspire us today as we celebrate a great American on #MLKDay.”

Although Kevin’s comments were not inflammatory in anyway, in light of his previous voting record, it did not look very good. And this was immediately picked up by people on social media, who singled out the politician for being hypocritical.

A particular focus was placed on Kevin’s decision to vote against the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. This legislation had the impact of trying to remove barriers for those from minority groups in trying to vote.

Thus, people were not happy with what Kevin had to say. One person wrote: “Dude you voted no on all voting rights bills,” while another stated: “All you’ve done is fight against a voting bill that would make things more equal.

“You’re a fake, sick man. Disgusting. Using #MLKDay to get likes.. for attention.”

Kevin has yet to respond to the backlash which is understandable, but the only way that he can realistically justify himself is to ensure that his voting record reflects his social media views. That way, he will appear more credible to the public.

And that is something that he should clearly be considering going forward into the future. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
