A memo has been leaked from Dave Chappelle’s ‘The Closer’ Netflix show, which suggested how members associated with the show should interact with others.
Leaked Memo Told Netflix Employees How To Address Dave Chappelle’s ‘The Closer’ Scandal
Dave’s show came under heavy criticism after a certain subset of people felt that his jokes were deemed to be mocking members of the LGBTQ community.
As such, there were calls to have the comedian cancelled, but this is something that he has managed to overcome by virtue of the fact that the show still continued.
And yet, it is clear that Dave was shaken by this. According to the memo, it is claimed that the recruiters for Netflix were told how they should respond to any new people they had hired about the network’s decision to back Dave in light of his controversy.
Accordingly, one such passage states the following: “Find a way to respectfully end and move on from the topic if you’re pressed further on the topic in areas not covered in the talking points.”
If these comments are taken to be true, then it is very significant for the following reasons. First of all, this is seen as a clear attempt to limit any damage that may have emerged for Dave.
However, given that this has now been leaked, it could have the opposite impact as it would suggest that the network is trying to evade accountability.
Secondly, the leaking in of itself, would demonstrate there are still a number of disgruntled employees working for Netflix. After all, it was no secret that a protest was held by members of the network who decided to walk out in response to the initial scandal.
This was shown when B. Pagels-Minor, who happened to be a transgender game launch operations program manager, had been let go from Netflix for apparently leaking sensitive information.
The memo added: “We have let go of an employee for sharing confidential, commercially sensitive information outside the company.”
Time will tell what the wider ramifications of this memo could mean, but in the meantime, it is clear that this story has more to it than meets the eye.
