The late Heidi Ferrer’s husband Nick Güthe has made a passionate plea to the medical and scientific community by urging them to find a cure for Covid-19.
Heidi Ferrer’s Husband Nick Güthe Urges The Medical Community To ‘Find Answers For Those Suffering’ With Covid
Heidi, who was best known for being a screenwriter on the hit TV show ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ had reportedly committed suicide after her long battle with the virus.
And given that her death is still very much fresh in the memory, Nick felt that more needed to be done in order to prevent others from doing the same.
In a letter published in The Guardian, Nick said: “I am not trying to be an alarmist, but we are in a true crisis. The global medical community must band together to find answers for those suffering.
“They are all Heidi and they are running out of time and hope.” Nick’s comments certainly ring true in light of how he had to watch his wife suffer.
He admitted that she struggled with basic cognitive functions, which naturally began to take a toll on her mental health as their relationship changed for the worse.
Although Nick was there to offer his support, as a husband should do, the very fact of the matter is that he could not ignore the clear anguish that she was going through.
He stated: “Heidi lost her mobility and her ability to eat. She was a lifelong avid reader but the brain fog (better thought of as cognitive dysfunction) robbed her of the ability to retain information.
“Even urinating and eventually, and cruelly, sex became painful.” Therefore, unless further action is taken to prevent this, there is a feeling that this could become a widespread problem.
People would be faced with either continuing to battle in the face of adversity, caused by any debilitating issues, against the thought of potentially taking their life if they felt that was an easier way out.
And that is not a pleasant choice to be faced with. That is what is keeping Nick awake at night. He revealed: “If only one in 20 of those long Covid patients becomes disabled or seriously debilitated we could be looking at a disturbing increase in suicides worldwide.”
