This was not the start that Adele was looking forward to. There are new reports that say a very tearful Adele was forced to postpone her entire Las Vegas residency.

Many of her fans have traveled thousands of miles and spent thousands of dollars to see the British songstress, prompting her to apologize for the delay in a tearful message and just 24 hours before her opening night. Here’s what you need to know.

“I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready,” the star told fans in a tearful update on Instagram. “Half my team have Covid and it’s been impossible to finish the show,” she said, adding that “delivery delays” had also played havoc with her plans.

Despite her apology, her show’s postponement has left many fans who had flown in and booked hotel rooms with no alternatives, and many said they couldn’t afford to return for whenever the shows would be rescheduled.

But some music industry professionals noted in reports that the axiom of show business was that “the show must go on,” pointing out that Adele’s show was about her singing and not flying with a harness or other spectacular production.

To make matters worse, Adele has apparently encouraged her fans in one call to buy her merchandise anyway, which includes $50 t-shirts, sweatshirts ranging in price from $90 to $110, and $75 bottles of her favorite Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir wine, which usually sells for $40. Each ticket holder received a free gift bag designed to take the sting out of having her abruptly pull out of her performance.

In another call, Adele offered a free drink token to a pair of disappointing concert-goers before quickly reneging on the proposal after realizing they were underage. “I love you too, I’m so sorry and I can’t wait to meet you, alright,” the Grammy winner said.

“Get your free bag – and you’re not old enough to drink are you so you can’t have that free drink token. You’re too young… Get your freebies and chat to anyone. Ask any of my team anything about the show, ask them anything about me, about the show.”

The shows, called “A Weekend with Adele,” were sold out and expected to be the most lucrative residency in Las Vegas history.
