Basketball superstar LeBron James has been heavily criticised in response to his latest social media post which seemed to suggest that there was no difference between Covid-19 and other variations of the flu/cold.
Basketball Superstar LeBron James SLAMMED For Spreading Covid-19 Misinformation-‘Incredibly Irresponsible, Misinformed And Inadvisable’
Covid-19 has once again come to the forefront of public debate, since the discovery of the Omicron variant which has resulted in an increasing number of cases, despite the vaccination programme going ahead en-mass in many countries across the globe.
And given that sport stars have been impacted by the pandemic, that being games cancelled as a result of positive tests, LeBron was frustrated by it all.
In a post to his fans on Instagram, LeBron shared a picture of three Spidermen superheroes. They are all pointing fingers at each other, as one of them is labelled with flu, while the others are labelled Covid and a cold.
The post was captioned by the following comments: “Help me out folks.” The response on social media was immediately one of outrage.
A large proportion of people believed that LeBron’s comments were distasteful in light of how many people had suffered as a result of the pandemic.
In addition, some even accused the basketball star of perpetuating misinformation in light of the number of cases and fatalities that have happened as a result.
One social media user went on to compare the statistics of the flu and the cold in comparison to those of Covid. And the results spoke for themselves.
In a post on Twitter, the user remarked: “Total number of deaths in America over the past two years: Covid: 815,647 Flu: 37,314. Cold: 0. Incredibly irresponsible, misinformed and inadvisable post from LeBron.”
It is not clear whether LeBron is going to face any repercussions for these comments. But given that the NBA has taken Covid protocols very seriously, there is a chance that he may end up doing so.
This is especially true in light of the fact that this post is still on his social media account. With that thought in mind, LeBron should think more carefully over what he decides to post online going forward.
