James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has revealed that the next James Bond could end up being non-binary.
Producer Claims The Next James Bond Could Be Non-Binary-‘Woke Will Fail’
Speculation over the role has been intensifying of late, with claims that the next 007 could either be a woman or a black actor.
While both of these claims received some criticism amongst the fanbase, partly due to the fact that it would be moving away from the traditional sense of the character, it looks as though a non-binary James Bond could happen.
Supporters of this would argue that it shows progression is being made with diversity. During an interview on the “Girls on Film,” podcast, the host asked: “Non-binary, perhaps, maybe one day [to play 007]?”
In response, Barbara replied: “Who knows? I mean, I think it’s open. We just have to find the right actor.” Nevertheless, moving away from casting a man is something that has not gone down well with one of the film’s most famous actors: Daniel Craig.
The former is set to leave the franchise after having completed his last movie entitled ‘No Time To Die.’ And given that such a high-profile actor, who played the role is against the idea of casting anybody other than a man, it would take a very brave person to make this move.
After all, it has the potential of splitting the fanbase. In a prior interview with the Radio Times, Daniel remarked: “Why should a woman play James Bond.
“There should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” The response on social media has equally been one of disappointment.
A large proportion of people believe that such a move would not go down well at the box office, just as the recent decision to portray Superman as bisexual in the latest comic book series alienated a large part of the audience.
One person wrote: “Bond would be over then . No need to drag all the various whatever you choose to be into normal chain of successful bond films. Woke will fail. I hope they never make another one.”
Time will tell what the new James Bond will look like. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
