The decision by CNN to fire Chris Cuomo was done shortly before the news anchor was accused of sexual misconduct.
Chris Cuomo Was Accused Of Sexual Misconduct Shortly Before Being Fired By CNN
That is according to attorney Debra Katz. Reports indicate that Debra’s client had decided to reach out to her in the week of the dismissal.
And with Chris already facing scrutiny for apparently helping his brother and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo tackle the sexual misconduct allegations that were being directed against him, this made Chris’ position no longer tenable.
In an official statement, Debra said: “I was in discussions with CNN about providing documentary evidence of my client’s allegations and making my client available for an interview with CNN’s outside counsel.
“Last night, CNN acted promptly on my client’s complaint and fired Mr Cuomo.” If this is taken to be true, then there could be serious repercussions going forward for the following reasons.
First of all, it may throw further light on why Chris had decided to help Andrew. After all, they are being accused of something very similar.
Secondly, it also shows that a further investigation will be needed in order to determine whether or not Chris is liable.
Thirdly, if this is proven, it is extremely difficult to see Chris coming back into such a role. And by coming forward, the victim wanted to ensure that this did not go unpunished.
Debra added: “My client came forward at this time because she felt in sharing her story and related documentation, she could help protect other women. [She] will continue to cooperate with CNN.”
In response, Chris has denied doing anything of the sort. However, the damage has already been done, given that his innocence in this matter is not going to change things a whole lot, especially since he admitted helping his brother.
Steven Goldberg, who happens to be a spokesman on behalf of Chris, had this to say: If the goal in making these false and unvetted accusations was to see Mr Cuomo punished by CNN, that may explain his unwarranted termination.”Â
The only thing left to do is let the investigation run its course, so that an impartial decision can be made. If you enjoyed reading this article, then please make sure you check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
