Ben Affleck has revealed that he would still be drinking, if he had been married to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Ben Affleck Admits He Would Still Be Drinking If He Was Married To Jennifer Garner-‘I Was Trapped’
Ben, for his part, is now happily hooked up with none other than Jennifer Lopez. And given that she takes pride in her health, this has rubbed off on Ben who has naturally endorsed some of the things that Jennifer has been doing.
And with that in mind, Ben did not hold back on the reasons why he continued to drink. While Ben and Jennifer (G) do have children together, that was not enough for Ben to keep his drinking issues under control.
During an interview on the ‘Howard Stern’ show, he said: “We probably would’ve ended up at each other’s throats. I probably still would’ve been drinking. Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped.”
This begs the question, why did Ben continue to stay in his marriage with Jennifer (G) for so long? After all, they had been married for around 10 years during which it was no secret that Ben was struggling with alcohol issues.
Well, just like many people around the world, Ben did not want to end up splitting his family unit, something which has actually happened.
He added: “I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy. What do I do?’ And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
That did not mean that Ben and Jennifer did not try to work things out. The actor has reportedly been into rehab on three occasions. And on two of those occasions, they happen to occur during his marriage to Jennifer.
Clearly, they had done everything in their power but it was to no avail. He continued: “Ultimately, we tried, we tried, we tried because we had kids, but both of us felt like we didn’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”
As long as Ben is happy now, then that is all that matters. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
