Ben Affleck has thrown further clarity on his previous comments which suggested that he would have still been drinking if he stayed with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Naturally, this raised a lot of eyebrows especially since the pair raised children together. And as part of that process, they tried to maintain a good relationship in order to ensure that co-parenting arrangements could go ahead as normal.
At the time of the comments, Ben had stated the following: “I’d probably still be drinking [If I was married]. It’s part of why I started drinking … because I was trapped.
Ben Affleck Clarifies His Comments On Jennifer Garner – ‘I Would Never Want My Kids To Think I Would Ever Say A Bad Word About Their Mom’
“I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy. What do I do?” That is why Ben wanted to clear up any misunderstandings that he may have caused, and thus, prevent the media from having a field day.
In an interview on the ‘Howard Stern Show,’ he said: “I would never want my kids to think I would ever say a bad word about their mom.” In his defense, Ben’s focus was on trying to explain how he made sure that his children came first.
Therefore, even if he was unhappy in his marriage with Jennifer, he did not immediately walk away because he wanted to keep his family unit intact.
When he realized that this was not the case, he walked away knowing that he had done everything in his power to make things work. Ben, though, did not help himself when he described how he felt ‘trapped’ during his marriage.
And that is how it came across to the audience. He added: “[People] had taken the conversation [and] made it seem as if I was doing the exact opposite of what I said.”
Jennifer has yet to respond to Ben’s comments, but given that they are both happier now with their respective partners, it makes sense to avoid opening another can of worms that is not going to help anyone.
With that in mind, it is probably best that Ben is more careful over what he says in public. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
