ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal Steve Burton was let go recently due to the vaccine mandate. While Burton addressed his feelings in an Instagram post and revealed some doors are opening on his podcast with Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli), there’s little known about Jason Morgan’s (Burton) future. There was a rumor a new actor coming may take the part, but there’s nothing official yet. Now, there is—somewhat. Let’s explain.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Goodbye
First, we have to give some props. General Hospital spoilers indicate that while they botched Jasper Jacks’ (Ingo Rademacher) goodbye, they are doing a much better job with Jason’s exit. The Cassadine Island adventure left him buried in rubble and Port Charles assumes he’s gone. It looks like that is definitely the case—for now.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Announcement
A recent Variety article set the record straight once and for all on the situation. Variety reported they’ve learned there are no plans at this time to recast the character. So, it looks like Jason is actually dead and Trevor St. John isn’t coming along to take over.
However, note the phrase “at this time”. We have a feeling they’re leaving Jason for dead out of respect to the actor. However, that phrase does open the door to a recast if they feel it necessary to have Jason back in the mix. And there is precedent for another actor coming along. There was a whole plot line with Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) we caught a bit of while they were airing flashback episodes.
In it, she knew the man with no memory was Jason, but she kept it from everyone. ‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal Billy Miller played the part for three years becoming Drew Cain. So, again, there’s a history here. But we do believe, if there is a recast, it’s going to be a while before it happens. We do think the writers are trying to honor the character and actor, as fans are in an uproar about Burton’s departure.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: One gripe
While we think the show is trying to walk the line, we noticed some weird things in the article. It almost seemed to be blaming Burton entirely for his exit by refusing to comply with the mandate. Forgetting, of course, that the company itself is the one putting the mandate—one that they knew wasn’t going to be fully accepted—into place. So, we think this is a “it takes two” situation.
Also, we found it interesting the article claimed Burton shared anti-vaccine rhetoric in his video. In reality, Burton said nothing about the vaccine itself, or any vaccines. He just spoke about feeling it was a personal choice and he chose not to. He also spoke a lot about the importance of gratitude in the message, as well as talking about his gratitude for the time at GH. So, we fail to see where that’s coming from. It feels a bit unfair to Burton.
