The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has confirmed that it will ban any members of the hit TV show Sesame Street from attending its conference next year.Â
The Conservative Political Action Conference Bans Sesame Street From Its Conference Over Their Pro-Vaccine Stance
The primary reason why the CPAC has decided to do this is because of the show’s endorsement of the COVID-19 vaccine. Therefore, they felt that this was trying to encourage and impose undue pressure on children to get a vaccine rather than it being an issue between families.
This was most notably seen when one of the characters from the show Big Bird had decided to post his vaccination status on social media.
In a post on Twitter at the time, Big Bird had said: “I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy.
“Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!” Republican Ted Cruz infamously came out and blasted the tweet by referring to it as ‘government propaganda.’
Ted felt that this issue should have been something that did not become politicised by promoting it on a children’s show. This is especially true given that there are a subset of people who are refusing to get vaccinated.
Regardless of their reasoning for not choosing to do so, many feel that Sesame Street’s endorsement is going to pressure people into doing it.Â
That is why the CPAC has decided to banish other members from the cartoon as well, including Bert, Elmo and Ernie. The response on social media was one of ridicule towards the CPAC’s stance.
People simply felt that things were being taken overboard by virtue of some puppets becoming cancelled from the conference. One person wrote on social media wrote: “CPAC 2021: They’re Trying to Cancel Dr Seuss!
“CPAC 2022: We Will Cancel Big Bird! Well, well, well, how the turntables,” while another stated: “Imagine beefin with fucking muppets… at y’all’s big age…”Â
It is safe to say that we will not be seeing the muppets at the CPAC anytime soon. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
