Film Maker Phelim McAleer Blasts The Presence Of Bullets On 'Rust'-'That Is Completely Mental And Unprecedented'

An independent film creator, by the name of Phelim McAleer, has blasted the safety protocols on the set of ‘Rust’ following Alec Baldwin’s prop gun incident.

Alec’s actions led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza. Although he was under the impression that the gun was unloaded, it still does not take away from the fact that there was huge negligence on the set.

And given that there was a bullet there in the first place, Phelim could not fathom why there would be such a thing. During an interview with Fox, Phelim said: “However an actual bullet on a set, never mind in a gun, that is completely mental and unprecedented.”

Naturally, this begs the question of how did the bullet get there. With the authorities no closer to the truth, it has left Halyna’s family in a total mess.

But even if we were to overlook the fact that there was a real bullet on the set, Phelim believes that the tragedy could still have been avoided. He stated how such weapons should never be pointed at anyone.

He added: “It’s called movie magic for a reason. Even if the script says point it at a person, we have tricks to avoid direct pointing.” Other people within the film industry have spoken out in a similar vein.

Corey Asraf, who happens to be the director of ‘Let Me Make You a Martyr,’ a story focusing on Marilyn Manson, stressed the importance of checking even fake guns.

In this way, there can be a full assurance that the weapon has not been misplaced or swapped for the real thing by mistake. In an interview with Fox, he remarked: “Even if a gun isn’t a real gun, even if it’s an Airsoft gun, you’re supposed to check it.

“You’re supposed to treat it like it’s a real gun. That’s the procedure.” This news only goes on to show that there needs to be an independent investigation to get to the bottom this.

But that is something that is sadly going to take time. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
