Netflix’s ‘Red Notice’ had an insanely huge $200 million budget, and the cast and crew were set to film on location across the world. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to shoot in Atlanta for everything, and digitally recreate a lot of physical places around the world!
Netflix Film Club on YouTube goes behind the special effects of the film, including a stunt with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in which his character is running across a bridge that gets blown up and jumps onto a helicopter being piloted by Ryan Reynolds’ character. But, did Johnson actually do his own stunts? Check out the video below!
“It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s fake when watching movies nowadays. But we can for sure tell you that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is, in fact, a certified badass.“
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Did His Own Stunts For Netflix’s ‘Red Notice’ – Or Did He?
In the clip, Johnson explains that he decided to do the stunt himself, with no cable or doubles. He had to run, jump 20 feet into a helicopter that was suspended 100 feet in the air, otherwise, he would most certainly fall. Of course, after watching the clip in its entirety, we find out that Johnson was pulling our leg, and that there were a ton of visual effects shots, a stunt double, and perhaps my favorite, the helicopter was suspended six feet off the ground.
He has us in the beginning though! However, perhaps more amazing was the difficulties that went into creating the opening scene. Because they weren’t on location, they had to completely edit out the background of an Atlanta parking lot and recreate the setting. Not to mention the difficulties of the drone shot and the flyer wearing VR goggles to control the thing!
While it was supposed to be an on-location film, thanks to the pandemic, they had to figure out how to recreate a lot of things, but it looks like it worked out in the end!
What do you think? Did Johnson have you believing him at first about the stunt? Let us know in the comments below.
