Country Star Carrie Underwood To Headline Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 95th Edition

The 95th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be inviting the people of New York back to the streets this year! In 2020 the event went virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic however, this year the parade is back to its regular format.

It has been announced that Carrie Underwood will be headlining this year’s parade. The country superstar will perform songs from her recently released holiday album, My Gift.

Also getting us into the Christmas spirit will  be Broadway star, Kristin Chenoweth , Glee star, Darren Criss, the cast of Peacock’s Girls5eva, Kim Petras, Chris Lane, Andy Grammer, Nelly Rowland and Kelly Rowland.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Is Back and So Are the Stars

As usual, the casts of several Broadway shows will perform. This year the casts of SIX, Moulin Rouge! and Wicked will perform numbers from the popular musicals. The parade will also offer in-person and television audiences a sneak peek of the upcoming Annie Live! starring Taraji P Henson, Jane Krakowski, Nicole Scherzinger and Tituss Burgess. The full live performance will premiere on NBC on December 2.

Of course the floats and balloons are big draws for the crowds. This year the Mandalorian’s “Baby Yoda” will be the newest addition. However, as always, it’s the big guy himself, Santa Claus that parade attendees will be clamoring to wave to from along the 2.5 mile parade route stretching from Central Park West to Columbus Circle.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have paradegoers back on the streets of Manhattan to join in person for this wonderful spectacle,” said a spokesperson for NBC. “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is an incredible tradition and we take great pride in bringing it to viewers each year as they celebrate the kickoff of the holiday season.”

Though bystanders are now welcomed back to watch the parade live, the event will be altered to ensure COVID safety measures, as recommended by the Centers for the Disease Control and Prevention, are enforced. Proof of vaccination is not required for spectators but all parade participants will be required to be masked and vaccinated.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been an annual tradition since 1924. As of 1953 the parade was televised. This tradition will continue when it airs on NBC on Thanksgiving morning. It will also be live streamed on Peacock.
