‘Survivor 41’ SLAMMED For Too Many Twists, Not Enough Game Play

‘Survivor 41’ spoilers find that fans were promised twists to the newly formatted competition show, now in its 41st season. We sure got them. But how many twists are too many?

Though it is hard to quantify an exact number, diehard fans believe Survivor 41 has found the number that has tipped them over the edge, but it seems the twists will just keep on coming.

During the most recent episode, the three way “Beware Advantage” was finally activated to become three immunity idols, rather than those in possession being voteless and, while it was pretty hilarious to hear Xander, Naseer and Shan blather on about dead relative butterflies, confused goats and broccoli trees, it is feeling like too much attention is being given to the twists and explanations on how they work, and not enough to the castaways and their relationships.

‘Survivor 41’ Spoilers: Too Many Twists, Not Enough Game Play, Fans Say

For example, did Genie say anything to Shan when Shan uttered the ‘phrase that pays’…and it paid…yet it should have been Genie’s idol because three person tribe had ‘agreed not to open it’?

Maybe Genie didn’t get the chance because Shan was whisked away to the “Protect or Risk” twist. In what game theorists call the “Prisoner’s Dilemma”, two or three castaways from opposing tribes have to decide to protect or risk their vote for an unknown advantage. If they all choose to risk, then they all lose their vote.

In the case of Shan and Liana playing the Prisoner’s Dilemma, Shan truthfully told Liana she would protect her vote and Liana won an advantage that throws yet another twist out into the ether.

Liana’s “Knowledge is Power” advantages gives her the right to question any player about an advantage or idol and they must be truthful. If they do have what Liana is asking them about, she gets to take it from them. That is one heck of an advantage…and twist that took time to explain, away from why Genie didn’t use her “Shot in the Dark”.

Yep, another twist that hasn’t been used by anyone at tribal council yet, allows any contestant one opportunity to risk their vote for safety. The castaway is given a die they can cash in for a one-in-six chance of being safe from elimination. If they draw and don’t receive immunity, they must sacrifice their vote at Tribal Council.  If you’re noticeably at the bottom of a three person alliance, a one in six chance is truly your only saving grace…but then, hindsight is 20/20, isn’t it Genie.

That’s a whole lot of twists and turns, and by the looks of things, there’s more to come as the three tribes swap or merge…or don’t if the gasps and groans in the trailer are anything to go by.

After 40 seasons, it is refreshing to see Survivor is trying something new, but fans feel like the show is now trying too hard and it’s getting messy. A change or two is a good thing, but the whiplash audiences are getting from the twists and turns, is getting a little intense.

Slow your roll a little Survivor- I’d really like to learn the names of the players NOT the Ua tribe, or be able to pick them out of a line-up at least.
