‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers find that audiences are split over the latest big storyline going down in Salem. Some DOOL fans are firmly against MarDevil 2.0, several more are digging the creepy vibe, especially with Halloween just around the corner. Then we have the fans who are yawning their way through the same old story they say they saw 25 years ago.
But Dr. Marlena Evans portrayer, Deidre Hall, who was apprehensive about recycling storylines herself, assures viewers “This is not your grandmother’s possession!”
Hall admitted, “My concern was, ‘Oh, we’ve sort of been here…” But then you see that chilling moment where Doug [Williams- Bill Hayes] is first possessed and I love the way it’s being done. So, my concern was more about repeating a storyline, but the way [head writer Ron Carlivati] is telling it is so rich.”
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Deidre Hall Uses Holy Water on Set When Filming MarDevil 2.0. “This Is Not Your Grandmother’s Possession!”
Aside from the Devil making Doug do it -locking Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) in a freezer and grabbing Paulina Price (Jackee Harry) by the unmentionables, there is the parallel storyline of Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) creating the movie about Marlena’s original possession.
Dropping in elements of Halloween classics like The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen is a delicious treat…and a bit of good, ole fashioned levitation never hurt anyone!
Hall has warned that the Devil isn’t just hanging around for Halloween, in fact she told Kelly Clarkson on her talk show that MarDevil 2.0. will be with us “all the way through Christmas.” Hall told Clarkson they have “just finished a huge Christmas show that involves the possession.”
We don’t remember the Devil hanging an ornament on the Horton family Christmas tree back in the 90s!
Robert Scott Wilson (Ben Weston) also dished with Clarkson about his excitement to be an integral part of MarDevil’s evil plans, saying, “Deidre’s a legend, and this storyline was literally one of the biggest ever in the history of 56 years. So, they’re revisiting it, and she’s coming after my baby.”
The former Price is Right Model added, “My baby is going to possibly be possessed. It’s very dramatic. It is not for the faint of heart.”
And there’s no room for the “faint of heart” on set, either…and so the cast and crew are taking precautions.
Hall explained, “When we embarked on the storyline, our executive producer and showrunner, Ken Corday, actually sent over holy water and a crucifix and every time we do a scene where I’m possessed, I’ve taken it on stage and offered anybody who would like to have some holy water — and everybody says yes. So, we go around the whole set.”
Better safe than sorry, as they say!
The original release for the spooky (or far-fetched, depending which side you are on) story said, “Fans can look forward to twists and turns you’d never suspect as well as familiar faces returning to save the day (or not). This time around, the devil knows no bounds and no one in Salem is safe!”
Now we know Salem (and viewers, depending which side you are on) will continue to be terrorized for the rest of 2021.
Watch Days of Our Lives (or not, depending which side you are on) when it airs weekdays on NBC.
