Comedian Jon Stewart has come out in defense of his friend Dave Chappelle after the controversy that has been happening over Chappelle’s latest stand-up special, ‘The Closer’. Stewart told TMZ that Chappelle is “on of my favorite people on the planet” and his intentions are “never hurtful.”
Chappelle has been under fire all month for his alleged “transphobia” and for commenting on JK Rowling’s comments about how gender is a fact.
“Gender is a fact. Every human being in this room, every human being on Earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth. This is a fact.”
Comedian Jon Stewart Defends Dave Chappelle: “His Intentions Are Never Hurtful”
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos initially came out in support of Chappelle, but has since walked back his comments as Netflix employees and allies staged a walkout earlier this week. Now though, Stewart has weighed in with his two cents standing by his longtime friend.
Stewart told TMZ
“Look, if this spurs a conversation where people get more on the same page in terms of understanding, that’d be great, but I know his intention is never hurtful — like, he’s just not that kind of person. And if it is [hurtful], it’s certainly unintentional … He’s really a good man.”
Reports have surfaced that Chappelle would be willing to meet with the transgender employees at Netflix, but no one from the group that has led the walkout has contacted Chappelle of his team.
Stewart made his own waves earlier this year when he strongly made the Wuhan lab leak theory passionately on Colbert and overtook the show.
