Talk Show host Bill Maher has defended Dave Chappelle over the backlash that the comedian has received in response to his new show on Netflix ‘The Closer.’

Bill Maher Defends Dave Chappelle Over His Netflix Controversy-‘Everyone Needs To Netflix And Chill The F— out

Dave’s sketch has been accused of perpetuating mocking comments towards the LGBTQ community, as a result of his jokes. So much so that the star has been accused of being transphobic and has faced calls for his show to be removed from Netflix.

This was fuelled by a walkout protest from employees of Netflix, but so far, the show will continue to run its course. And Bill has called on those who were outraged to be a little more lenient as opposed to taking things to heart.

During a segment on his show ‘Real Time,’ Bill said: “What the f— was that reaction? Everyone needs to Netflix and chill the f— out on this one. Really?

“Dave’s special is offensive but not the show where the Koreans murder each other for money?,” in reference to Netflix’s Squid Game.

Bill’s comments have raised the importance of how populism can be a dangerous thing. It is clear that there is huge disgruntlement towards Dave, but the manner in which it has come about has Bill puzzled.

Many assumptions have been made about the comedian without him having the chance to have his say. Bill added: “I think people jump to conclusions. People haven’t seen it.

“Just because people call Dave’ transphobic’ doesn’t mean that he is.” With that in mind, Bill has continued to defend the right to free speech.

After all, it is a vital first amendment right, and Bill is known for being ever so vocal, as shown on his show. Although he may be a divisive figure, people have the choice over whether to acknowledge his views or not. And that is how it should be.

He continued: “Well, get used to this because we’re going to be talking about it a lot here. We can’t be afraid to speak in America.”

With Bill at his side, at least Dave has someone looking out for him. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
