‘The Amazing Race’ fans can rejoice. Their favorite competition show is set to return to CBS this season.
The CBS reality series has just turned 20 years old. Now the long running race around the world, that sees teams of two visiting exotic locations and competing in sets of challenges, is said to finally be in pre-production for season 33.
‘The Amazing Race’ Newest Season is in Pre-Production
It has been a long hiatus for the show that is based on travelling the world, while the world has closed its borders to keep their countries safe during the pandemic. However, according to Senior Executive Vice President of Programming for CBS Entertainment, Thom Sherman, “The Amazing Race will be back this season.”
The 33rd season of The Amazing Race was already filming when Coronavirus stopped the entire planet from doing anything besides spin on its axis. Three episodes had been shot only so it is presumed the season will pick up where it left off, with the same competitors. However, it is unknown if the season will continue in the same trajectory as first planned.
Though much of the world is starting to welcome tourism and other non-essential travel, there will be many countries who will not welcome Americans- competitors, cameramen and the rest of the production staff-past their borders,
With the Delta variant running rampant through the U.S., much of Europe has excluded even fully vaxxed Americans from visiting. Australia and New Zealand are welcoming no one.
This isn’t seeming to dissuade the show’s creators Bertram Van Munster and Elise Doganieri from planning their great comeback.
“We’ve been talking to CBS and they want to get back,” Doganieri said all the way back in April. “We just need to get that mass vaccination happening. Safety is key, you don’t want to do a show and have people get sick. That’s our priority.”
Meanwhile, beloved host of The Amazing Race, Phil Keoghan has said to be “champing at the bit” to get back out to his hosting duties.
