So, now are they going to go back and believe what Meghan Markle had to say? Following all of the hateful things that were said about the three England players of color that were targeted with online abuse last week, it looks like the racism in the UK has reared its ugly head yet again.
That’s because Lewis Hamilton has been targeted with the same kind of racial abuse online that the footballers unfortunately received following England’s lost against Italy in the Euro 2020 final. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, Hamilton fought back from a 10-second penalty to clinch victory following a controversial collision with rival Max Verstappen, which left him in the hospital.

Facebook, which also owns Instagram, said it had removed a number of comments from its platform in relation to Hamilton, who has been a huge advocate for diversity and the Black Lives Matter movement, and called the abuse “unacceptable.”
“In addition to our work to remove comments and accounts that repeatedly break our rules, there are safety features available, including Comment Filters and Message Controls, which can mean no one has to see this type of abuse,” a Facebook company spokesperson told the press. “No single thing will fix this challenge overnight but we’re committed to the work to keep our community safe from abuse.”
Formula 1, the International Automobile Federation and his team, Mercedes-AMG-Petronas, also denounced the actions in a joint statement.
“Formula 1, The FIA and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team condemn this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. These people have no place in our sport and we urge that those responsible should be held accountable for their actions,” the statement read.
“Formula One, the FIA, the drivers and teams are working to build a more diverse and inclusive sport and such unacceptable instances of online abuse must be highlighted and eliminated,” the statement added.
Sky Sports reported racist messages, including “monkey emojis” and other racial slurs were directed at Lewis in an Instagram post by the Mercedes team celebrating his victory. Hamilton is the sport’s only Black driver.
