“It’s been such a roller coaster,” Bowens told Soap Opera Digest as she detailed the eventual landing of the role of bad-girl Chanel.
Auditioning ‘virtually’ months back and following it up with a chemistry read, Bowens was told that the decision came down to the wire but ultimately the part was won by Precious Way.

“As actors, we hear that often,” Bowens laughed. “I was like, ‘Whatever, they were just probably being nice’”.
Though understandably bummed to miss out on such a plum role, Bowens took advice from the great Carol Burnett’s book and was at peace with another actress getting the part.
“You know what? It wasn’t my turn. It was that other person’s turn,” Bowens told herself and her agents who then landed the young actress another show, filming in New York.
“So, I was in New York and I was doing that show and then DAYS called and they offered me the role. It was pretty crazy.”
The quick recast was offered to Bowens on her birthday (quite the gift!), the deal closed the day after and immediately she was sent five scripts! First she had to wrap on her New York shoot before flying back to L.A. and, another day afterward she was on set!
“My first day, I think I did something like 29 scenes. It was wild!” she recalled.
With so much material to learn in such a small amount of time, Bowens had a system, including a binder with tear away pages once scenes were completed, and a plan to not even bother learning names of her castmates.
“I didn’t really get to meet anybody,” Bowens shares of her first day on set. “I didn’t really want to on my first day because I had so many lines in my head and just learning about the building and doing your own hair and makeup because of Covid, there was a lot.”
However, Bowens has now had the opportunity to bond noting that working with Jackée Harry (Chanel’s mom, Paulina Price) Paulina] is ultra-exciting for the new soap star. “I grew up watching Sister, Sister over and over, so I was really excited to meet her and work with her.”
Catch Bowens as the new Chanel on Days of Our Lives, weekdays on NBC.
