DaBaby, the musician who is better known by his real name Jonathan Kirk, has apologised for making homophobic remarks.

DaBaby Apologises For Making Homophobic Comments

The star sent a shockwave amongst his fans when he made a series of statements at his concert. One such statement included DaBaby comparing people suffering from HIV/Aids to junkies. Just when you thought that was bad enough, he sent the LGBTQ community wild when he made a statement that was deemed to be denigrating gay people.

He said: “Fellas if you ain’t suck a n***a dick in the parking lot, put your cell phone lights in the air. Keep it fucking real.” This led to an immediate backlash, including a statement from Dua Lipa, the singer who had been collaborating with DaBaby.

She immediately let her fans know that she did not endorse his views, irrespective of whether he had phrased them incorrectly. And she made sure that he knew she was horrified by his actions.

In an official statement in response, she remarked: “I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community.” Naturally, it got a bit too much for DaBaby, who realised that he had to respond.

A significant proportion of his fanbase are from the LGBTQ community, which meant that they would be alienated if he did not backtrack his comments. Not only that, but fellow gay musician (Elton John) also expressed his anger at DaBaby’s statement.

That is why the musician issued his apology. In a statement, DaBaby stated: “Anybody who done ever been effected [SIC] by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies. But the LGBT community… I ain’t trippin on y’all do you. y’all business is y’all business.”

Time will tell whether there will be any serious ramifications for the comments made by DaBaby. After all, we are living in a period of cancel culture where any given statement can lead to a career being destroyed without warning.
