Prince William’s grievances towards his brother Prince Harry became further deepened in the aftermath of the allegations that Meghan Markle had been bullying staff members during her time in the Royal family.
Prince William Did Not Want ‘Prince Harry Around Anymore’
The allegations were particularly disturbing, given that the late Prince Philip had been hospitalised during the actual disclosure. If that was not enough, these claims emerged just prior to Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview on CBS.
According to Royal expert Robert Lacey in his book, ‘Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult,’ William was outraged that Meghan could be capable of doing such things. An extract from the book confirmed as much. “Prince William went ballistic when he heard the ‘dossier of distress’ [evidence that was compiled against Meghan] [William was] astonished and horrified.”
Although Meghan denied that she had done anything wrong, it did lead the British public to feel anger towards Meghan. They felt that Meghan knew what she was signing up for when she married Harry, and therefore, the failure to carry out her Royal duties merely showed that she was not interested in the wider institution.
That was something that William found very hard to get to grips with. The book added: “[William felt Meghan had an] agenda. [She was] undermining some precious principles of the monarchy [and] seemed to be stealing his beloved brother away.” This created a division of loyalties within the family. Harry, in response, was outraged by the fact that William had chosen to believe the staff over his own family.
Therefore, Harry had put William in a difficult position. He was expecting William to defy the will of the monarchy and turn against his own staff by rejecting their concerns. With that unlikely to happen, William knew he could no longer associate with Harry. The book continued: “At the end of the day, the British crown and all it stood for…had to matter more to William than his brother did. William simply did not want her or Harry around anymore.”
With the division between William and Harry probably still present, there is the question of whether they will ever return back to the close brothers they once were.
