Michelle Williams has opened up on how she is still on very good terms with her ex-bandmates Kelly Rowland and Beyonce.

The three, for their part, were a worldwide sensation ever since their time in Destiny’s Child. While they would go on to part ways and enjoy some success in their own right, most notably Beyonce, their separate journeys have not prevented them from staying in touch. That is something that Michelle clearly cherishes. During an interview with Us Weekly, Michelle revealed the key reasons for their strong friendship.

She said: “I would just say respect and keeping our friendship kind of between us. “We don’t share [a lot of things].” Michelle, though, has a lot of things that she has on her mind. And this has been no secret in the public domain. During her high-profile split with her ex-fiance Chad Johnson, Michelle was very vocal about she went into a state of mass depression and anxiety.

This was further compounded by the fact that Beyonce and Kelly went on to have children. While Michelle has stressed that kids are not the be-all and end-all over whether a woman is successful, it did hit a nerve when a fan suggested that her life would be in a better position if she had kids. That caused her to snap back on social media in the most uncharacteristic of fashion.

She remarked: “No, what’s uncalled for is you telling a woman that she needs to have children. What if that woman CAN’T have children??” And her willingness to hold her ground has led to Michelle’s upcoming book entitled, ‘Checking In: How Getting Real about Depression Saved My Life — and Can Save Yours.’ Michelle has taken it upon herself to become an advocate for mental health ever since her own struggles.

Although mental health has been a bit of a taboo in the past, Michelle highlighted how the pandemic has taught her to view things differently. Instead, she is looking to leave everything out in the open. She added: “I think the pandemic has taught people, listen, there, let’s not hide anything. Let’s not do that…And let’s really say how we’re really feeling. That could save a life.”
