Lance Bass has opened up on the difficulties he has been through in trying have a baby with his husband, Michael Turchin.

The duo announced that they would go through a surrogate in order to finally achieve their dream of becoming parents. Previous attempts to do this via IVF ultimately ended up being unfruitful, which led to the question over whether the pair would still continue down the parenteral route.
But now that has been put to bed, as they are expecting soon. During an interview with People, Lance opened up about the struggles they went through in trying to have a baby. He said: “It has been quite the journey. Pretty much everyone we’ve known had bad luck at the beginning. The first time they [surrogate] tried it, it just did not work.”
Lance, for his part, will be in good company to take on the parental role. His former boy band member Justin Timberlake is well-versed in what it takes to become a parent. The latter has several children with his wife, Jessica Biel, so there is plenty of opportunities for Lance to pick up some much-needed advice.
But as for reaching out to Justin, Lance has hesitated from doing it for fear that the pregnancy could still go wrong. He added: “Because of what we’ve been through the last four years, we were very cautious to get excited. And it kind of sucks because when you find out you’re pregnant, you want to celebrate.” As history has shown us, Lance is right to feel a little nervous.
Their previous attempts to have a baby via a surrogate have ended badly. The mothers, who have participated, have either had fertility issues or gone on to lose the baby. Although the couple do have other options on the table, such as adoption, the prospect of seeing the birth process is something they are wanting to experience.
That, though, brings an element of caution. Lance continued: “When we were pregnant last year, our surrogate miscarried while being pregnant with twins… it’s very disappointing when that dream gets popped.” We will have to see how this will all play out.
