The Duchess of Cambridge might have made a huge mistake when she called Prince Charles by his nickname in public. According to reports, while at the G7 Leaders Summit in Cornwall, Prince William’s wife addressed her father-in-law by his personal nickname: grandpa.
Kate Middleton Broke Royal Protocol With Prince Charles
A lipreader told Cornwall Live that Kate Middleton immediately greeted Prince Charles when she arrived at the event, saying, “Hello, Grandpa! How are you?”
This is a huge deal in royal circles, as members of the royal family are expected to greet one another by their official titles, and especially when they are in public.
That’s why so many royal experts can’t believe that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle named their daughter after Queen Elizabeth’s personal nickname, Lilbet.
In her latest vlog, royal expert and author Lady Colin Campbell said she believes that Queen Elizabeth had no idea that Harry and Meghan would name their daughter after her by using her personal nickname.
She explained, “Why would Buckingham Palace announce that the Queen did not give her permission for her nickname to be used – if she had given it? That is not the sort of thing that accidentally happens at the Palace. This sort of announcement is cleared at the very highest level.”
So far Queen Elizabeth herself has not made any direct comments about the ordeal.
