‘I Am Jazz’ star, Jazz Jennings has opened her world to TLC audiences for six seasons so far. As season seven begins production this summer, the 20 year old speaks out about her struggles with Binge-Eating Disorder (BED) and a subsequent 100lb weight gain.
Already a transgender activist, Jennings is also body positive, posting photos of her weight gain with self-affirming captions like “Beautiful every shape and size”.
However, she is also letting fans know that she is embarking on a health journey after she gained “almost 100 lbs. in a little less than 2 years” and is holding herself accountable to change, starting with posting photos of her current body shape.
‘I am Jazz’: Jazz Jennings Talks ‘Substantial’ Weight Gain and Eating Disorder as Season Seven Production Begins
Posting a photo of herself in a sports crop top and cycle shorts, Jennings explained that she suffers from Binge Eating Disorder. According to the National Eating Disorder Association, BED is a “severe, life-threatening, and treatable eating disorder” and the most common eating disorder in the United States.
Jennings explains further, “I’m not only addicted to food, but I eat it in large quantities.”
Jennings’ binging is somewhat equated to the increased appetite she experiences from some of the meds she takes, a part of her journey as a transgender girl-now-woman. Yet now she is prepared to “hold myself accountable” and change her ways to become a healthier self.
“I’m ready to take the initiative and create positive changes when it comes to my health and body. I have a fabulous team supporting me, both professionals and family/friends, but at the end of the day, I have to be the one committed toward bettering myself. I know I have the power in me to lose the weight, and I intend on sharing my progress with all of you.”
That progress will be documented during season seven of the popular TLC show which has pushed to normalize transgendered people by showing the Jennings family and Jazz’s journey.
Howard Lee, president of TLC Streaming and Network Originals, said the following about the upcoming return of I am Jazz, “Alongside viewers and fans, we have watched Jazz grow into a beautiful, young woman and champion for transgender rights all over the world.
Her advocacy and impact have made a significant mark in history, and we are honored to continue following her story in the next chapter of her life.”
A premiere date for season seven of I Am Jazz has not been set yet, but watch this space for future updates.
