Matthew Perry and his fiancé of 6 months, Molly Hurwitz, a literary manager, are going their separate ways. Sources say it was 51 year old Perry who called the engagement off.
Perry and Hurwitz began dating in 2018. Perry proposed to the 29 year old in November 2020. Newly affianced Perry said at the time “I decided to get engaged! Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.”
Now, mostly tight-lipped about the break-up, Perry’s statement simply said, “Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best.”

Perry and Hurwitz began dating in 2018 and got engaged in November 2020.
Perry has been in the media a lot lately, most recently due to his participation in HBO Max’s Friends reunion: The One Where They Got Back Together.
In previews it was noted that Perry sounded as if he were slurring. Reunion director, Ben Winston assured fans-who were afraid Perry had fallen off the wagon again- that the comedian had simply had emergency dental work performed mere hours before he appeared on the reunion.
Perry famously battled a prescription drug addiction throughout the Friends phenomenal 10 year run but thankfully appears to be sober now. He did divulge throughout the reunion, to shocked cast mates, his level of anxiety during the decade run which could have been one of the catalysts behind his addiction problems.
“To me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh and it’s not healthy, for sure,” Perry admitted. “I would sometimes say a line and they wouldn’t laugh and I would sweat and just, like, go into convulsions. If I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get, I would freak out.”
Prior to the Friends Reunion, shooting all 6 actors back into the headlines, Perry was embroiled in a Raya dating ap ‘scandal’. Used a lot by celebrities, Perry used the platform to chat up a 19 year old woman.
Though icky at most, nothing untoward happened between Perry and the woman who claimed Perry was a year older than her father. However, the chat, which was posted onto TikTok, occurred in May 2020- when Perry and Hurwitz were dating.
Perhaps this encounter had something to do with Perry’s broken engagement? For now we don’t know.
