Flordia Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that will require all K-12 public schools in his state to hold a moment of silence at the start of the day starting next school year. The bill specifically says teachers CANNOT make suggestions about what the students do with the time.

However, people are saying that this is a prayer bill and is pushing the idea of God into public school systems. If you read through it, it says there are not suggestions about what students use the time with, though most of the comments on the post are complaining about “pushing religion into the public school system.”

“All K-12 public schools in Florida will hold a moment of silence at the start of the day starting next school year, according to a bill signed into law Monday by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The bill says teachers cannot make suggestions about how students use this time, but opponents say the bill is requiring prayer in schools.

“It’s important to be able to provide each student the ability every day to reflect and be able to pray as they see fit,” said DeSantis. “The idea that you can just push God out of every institution and be successful. I’m sorry our founding fathers did not believe that.”

While DeSantis says “pray as they see fit”, it doesn’t mean they need to pray to a God, and these 60 seconds could be used for meditation or self-reflection.

This seems to be being blown up way more than it should and the public school system is not under any danger or religious takeover. It’s 60 seconds, each day, of silence. That is all.

What do you think? What do you think about the new law and do you think it could help children start their day? Let us know in the comments below.
