And so it begins. Britney Spears is speaking her mind at last during her conservatorship hearing. As many fans know, Britney’s life has been ruled by an atypical court-dictated legal arrangement that removes practically all autonomy from her life.
Britney has addressed her conservatorship in a probate court hearing in Los Angeles, however, she has requested that her remarks not be closed to the public. While it did begin with some technical difficulties, the hearing began with Britney telling the court via a phone call, “Good afternoon.”
Britney Spears Speaks To The Court For The First Time At Conservatorship Hearing
“Ma’am, I’m not here to be anyone’s slave,” Britney was heard telling the court on the call, adding that while she was still performing, “I wasn’t good, I was GREAT.”
The chart topper also said, “I’m not happy. I can’t sleep, I’m so angry it’s insane. I cry everyday. I’ve lied and lied and told the world I’m okay and I’m happy. It’s a lie. I’ve been in denial, I’m in shock, I’ve been traumatized. I cry everyday.”
Britney also added, “I don’t even drink alcohol. I should drink alcohol for what they’ve done to my heart. It is my wish and my dream for all of this to end. I want my life back.”
As many fans already know, Britney Spears’ conservatorship is split into two parts – one is for her estate and financial affairs, the other is for her as a person. Under this legal agreement, the singer has not controlled her finances since 2008.
Britney has previously made her feelings about the court-ordered conservatorship known through her lawyer Samuel Ingham, including last year, when he said she was scared of her father and would not perform again while he controlled her life.
Britney also made it clear that she wants her conservatorship to end immediately without any testing and does not want to attend therapy twice a week. She also wants to handpick her own attorney.
If that weren’t enough, she also said, “All I want is to own my money and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family.”
She also alleged that her father, Jamie Spears, “loved” the control he held over her as her conservator.
Britney has been making headlines in recent months because of her conservatorship ever since the documentary Framing Britney Spears put a spotlight on the matter.
The doc has given a voice to Britney’s fans, most who have raised questions about whether the court’s orders have been in her best interests.
