Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already have enough diapers at their disposal, thank you very much. There’s a new report that says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rejecting the gifts that fans have been sending them after the birth of their second child, a daughter named Lilibet. Instead of sending gifts, the Sussexes are encouraging fans and well-wishers to make a donation to women’s groups and organizations. Here’s what you need to know.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Rejecting Fan Gifts For Their Baby Daughter Lilibet
Meghan gave birth to a daughter – Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor – on Friday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. Following their birth announcement, a post on the Archewell Foundation website said: “For those inquiring on sending gifts, we would ask that you support or learn more about these organizations working for women and girls: Girls Inc, Harvest Home, CAMFED or Myna Mahila Foundation.”
“While the Duke and Duchess are on parental leave, Archewell will continue to do important work and publish stories on the site. We look forward to seeing you!”
It seems like the idea is a pretty great one, as so far Harry and Meghan have gotten a lot of positive feedback. Responding to the couple’s announcement, CAMFED, which aims to improve girls’ education in Africa, tweeted: “We’re thrilled for your family & you can rest assured we’re here to make the world a better place for all of us, by supporting girls to learn, thrive and lead.”
Girls Inc, a non-profit organization, serves girls ages 5-18 in more than 350 cities across the U.S. and Canada, while Harvest Home is a Los Angeles-based organization that supports homeless pregnant women and their babies.
