Scheana Shay has opened up on her difficult pregnancy, which on another day could have led to some severe health problems.
‘Vanderpump Rules’: Scheana Shay Opens Up On Her Difficult Pregnancy
The star of Vanderpump Rules welcomed the arrival of her daughter (Summer) just last month, and looking back, she was lucky to have had a safe birth. During the course of the delivery, doctors had discovered that she was suffering from preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. These two conditions can cause high blood pressure and lead to kidney/liver problems.
Naturally, her daughter could have been at risk. And that was only half the story. In an interview on her Scheananigans with Scheana Shay podcast, she said: “I was borderline about to have a stroke or a seizure. … The fact that they caught it, I am so lucky. It’ [s]..life-threatening…, and it could have been fatal.” Schena had braced herself for the worst.
Despite the doctor’s discovering it, they had to weigh up whether they induced an earlier birth or allow it to go ahead naturally. Scheana confirmed how doctors had placed her on a magnesium drip as her baby struggled. She added: “It [magnesium] made poor baby Summer so sleepy. She had a low heart rate.” And she continued to remain anxious right until the birth.
Her other friends Brittany Cartwright and Lala Kent, had given birth successfully, albeit after having gone through difficult pregnancies. But at one point, Scheana thought that Summer may have died. This was because, unlike the majority of babies, she was delivered without her crying. That led Scheana to believe that she had given birth to a stillborn baby.
Not to worry though, Summer was merely having a snooze. That is why Scheana could not hide her excitement. She continued: “[I was like] Hi, baby. Oh, my God. You’re here. Hi, baby. It’s OK. We did it, Summer. We did it.” It is nice to see Schena have some positive news in her life. It will be fascinating to see whether Summer follows her mother’s passion for reality TV in the future.
If she can be half as successful as her mother, then she will turn out to be just fine. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish. Please also visit TVRocker for all of the latest exciting news on all of your favourite daytime television soaps.
