Harry, for his part, has been very vocal about the difficulties he has been through ever since his mother’s death. Unlike Prince William, who has been compared to Prince Charles, the parallels between Harry and Diana are very striking indeed. Not only did they struggle to adjust to life in the Royal family, but both had also attempted to distance themselves from it as much as possible.
Harry moved overseas with Meghan Markle in order to start a new life, while Diana had tried to do so with Dodi al-Fayed. The similarities do not stop there. Stewart Pearce, who happened to be Diana’s personal elocution coach, remarked the following. In an interview with Us Weekly, he said: “Harry, in terms of his impetuosity [is Diana].
“Harry, in terms of his intuitive explosions of energy, [is the most like her].” Stewart also drew parallels between Diana and Meghan. Both had suffered at the hands of the press over their personal lives. Megan was very vocal about how the media drew her to the brink of suicidal thoughts, as well as trying to track down her father for a story. Diana had also suffered scrutiny over her purported romance with Dodi.
This was because he was from a Muslim background, which could have been frowned upon as, it would have been a significant departure from the Royal customs surrounding weddings. As a consequence, Meghan and Diana were left hanging out to dry. Stewart added: “She [Diana] was really not given a tremendous amount of advice… [Meghan] was [also] given very little advice.”
Just like Diana’s split from Charles came with a lot of backlash, so did Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave the royals. Many of their critics felt they used the royal family simply to expand on their brand and reap the financial rewards. Regardless of what you think over their decision to leave, they have done well for themselves from a financial point of view.
