Mac Miller’s family have given their mass disapproval at a biography set to be released on the late rapper’s life.
Mac Miller’s Family Call On Fans To Abstain From Buying A Book Commemorated To The Late Rapper
The musician had sadly died following a drug overdose. While he created many talking points during his life, the noise in the aftermath of his death has continued to reverberate. And it seems people are out to exploit any opportunity for a headline. The book entitled, Most Dope: The Extraordinary Life of Mac Miller has been written by Paul Cantor.
The former did not have a relationship with the rapper, nor the family, which raises the question of why he would bring out such a book. And the family made sure that the fans knew. In a statement posted on Instagram, Karen Meyers {Mac’s mother) said: “This book is not authorized or endorsed by Malcolm’s family… [The writer] had no meaningful access to those that were closest to Malcolm.”
The release of the book is also telling for several other reasons. First, the family had recently approved another biography written by Donna-Claire Chesman. The book entitled ‘The Book of Mac: Remembering Mac Miller’ is set to come out later in October this year. Despite having this project already in the pipeline, Paul has decided to release this 3 months after the other book.
This is significant because it would fall in the timeline of the late rapper’s birthday. Naturally, this could only be viewed in the way that it should be: a marketing tool. Karen added: “We have been consistently disappointed by the author and publisher’s decision to pursue this book…utilizing Malcolm’s birthdate as a marketing tool.”
Mac’s music has touched many people around the world. His iconic soundtrack, ‘Best day Ever,’ has been praised for showing the rapper’s growth from humble beginnings. Given that he left such a legacy behind, the family is hell-bent on making sure that his image continues to transcend a positive message.
That is why Karen has called on all fans to boycott this book. She continued: “We urge those that wish to support Malcolm and his legacy to abstain from purchasing this new book.”
