Seven years after it’s predecessor wrapped up its 9 season run (to mixed reviews), How I Met Your Father is finally coming to TV via Hulu.
The streaming platform has ordered 10 episodes of the show that was first floated in 2014 as a spin-off from the extremely popular How I Met Your Mother. The pilot for How I Met Your Dad was never aired and never will, but How I Met Your Father is set to air…sometime.
How I Met Your Father Has Finally Got the Green Light
Details are few and far between right now, but it will be executively produced by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas creators of the How I Met Your Mother smash hit. Also signed on to co-produce and star is Hillary Duff.
Now available since wrapping the TVLand/Paramount+ series Younger, and recently giving birth, Duff will star as Sophie, the ‘Ted Mosby’ (Josh Radnor) type protagonist who is telling her son the story of ‘how she met his father’.
The story starts in 2021 with Sophie and her group of friends going through all the “single in your thirties” trials and tribulations amidst the age of dating apps and limitless options.
Said Duff about her upcoming role, “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby.”
Fan reaction has been mixed so far. Some fans of How I Met Your Mother are ‘suiting up’, saying they have had to “wait for it” for far too long. Others are afraid to tarnish the original with what could be a lack luster spin-off.
Then there are the fans, scarred by the polarizing finale of the original, saying they refuse to get emotionally invested for 9 years only to have the mother (now father) killed off in minutes.
