Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) might have the backing and support of her squad members, but that’s just about it.
There’s a new report that says House Speaking Nancy Pelosi tries to postpone the rollout of the Green New Deal back in 2019, as she was worried that the far-left legislation could be used as a springboard to “actual power.” Here’s what you need to know.
A new book called ‘Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Donald Trump,’ says that House Speaker Pelosi tried to stop AOC from getting involved with the Green New Deal. Apparently, she felt “anxious” about the new congresswoman’s notoriety of becoming an actual power.
Even Nancy Pelosi Can’t Stand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
“In February 2019, Pelosi called [Massachusetts Sen.] Ed Markey the night before he was scheduled to help roll out the Green New Deal. She asked him to hold off. She wanted more substantive policy.
The politics weren’t good right then. Don’t give the platform to Ocasio-Cortez, she urged, anxious about the new congresswoman’s notoriety becoming actual power,” Edward-Isaac Dovere writes in the book.
Despite this, AOC went ahead with the unveiling of the Green New Deal that year. Their plan was for the country to transition away from using fossil fuels as a source of energy in favor of renewable sources like wind and solar power.
Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammill is now denying that this ever happened. But Devere says it certainly did as he told the New York Post in an interview, “The book was drawn from extensive reporting, and as the note on sourcing in the book says, includes over 400 interviews over four years. It’s full of private conversations, phone calls and emails which haven’t been revealed before – this among them.”
